Its Jack PiigBox – the reveal

So the cat is out of the bag, the black PiigBox I’ve recently built was for Jack. If you follow his channel, you’ll see it in his latest video. if you don’t, why not? go and check him out now.

Jack has built an amazing following over the last year with his engaging youtube vlogs and insta reels. It’s been great watching his channel grow and watch his van life journey, and trips around the country with Mamba fpv.

Watching Jack in his van, and flying in the field and bandos, I knew PiigBox would fit into his life…

So go check out his video now. https://youtu.be/67Ygu6Xp1n8?si=UYUcSYnnBK4T-RVz

If you’ve got any questions, give me a shout, I’m human! Ask about colours, finish, logos, graphics. It’s YOUR PiigBox..

A new PiigBox is born – Welcome Piiglet

Piiglet is a brand new Piigbox product. Using the same quality components used in big brother PiigBox models, but with just 1 speaker driven by a dedicated 1 x 60W Sure amp. It’s full of clever trickery which blends the stereo signal and spits out a massive punch to the 1 speaker.

I promised a Combustible Lemon theme, and you got it. This build had 4 objectives: 1) Showcase the new design 2) Showcase my new vinyl cutting service 3) Showcase our new airbrushing aging 4) Becasue I wanted a Portal 2 themed PiigBox…

So if you’re looking for an even more cost effective bluetooth speaker which will last forever on a full charge, plus the ability to charge your phone, cameras etc… then piick up a Piiglet…..

Custom vinyl cutting now available

I’m proud to be able to offer in-house vinyl cutting for PiigBox. Designs will be subject to approval and testing, but I’ll be able to offer logos, youtube or Insta names etc.

One of my recent PiigBox orders had Insta name on front and rear. These were bought in and would add to overall cost. So bringing the service in-house will reduce it.

I might even add vinyl sticker service to my ETSY store to get more visitors…

Combustible Lemon Containment

So here’s the final design mock up for the first Piiglet. It’s going to have Kobra HP100 Yellow as a base colour. On top of which will be vinyl cut decals to complete the Apeture theme. Then finished off with aging detail, and a nice thick gloss laquer to protect it.

I’ve not designed the back panel yet, but may go for an oversized Aperture logo and a copy of the Cave Johnson’s lemon speech to give the whole project some context for those not familiar with the back story.

This promo version of Piiglet will be up for sale once it’s been put together. It features a SURE 1x60W bluetooth amp, a 4S 18650 power pack, usb charging for usb A and usb C.

I’ll wait until the promo version is ready and tested before adding to the shop.

One of One coming Soon! When life gives you lemons!

This PiigBox is going to be so special. My favourite game of all time is Portal 2. I’m going to make a Combustible Lemon Containment PiigBox! CLCP for short.

Aperture Science – Combustible Lemon

Here’s the back story!

During the middle of Chapter 6, The Fall, an automated recording is played of the deceased Cave Johnson. It is told that he is the founder of Aperture Science, has spent years as CEO, and is coming up with new inventions and ideas for the future. Some of his ideas backfired, and one even cost him his life. He received a deadly disease which was caused by the contact of Moon Rocks. At first he is optimistic that his researchers will create a vaccine to save him. Unfortunately as time goes by, his optimism fades, and soon becomes enraged.

“When life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons, what the hell am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man who’s gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I’m gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!”

I’ve set the scene. I’ll leave it to your imagination now.

Latest PiigBox ready to ship

Loving this latest PiigBox in gloss black with 2 shades of grey splatter.
This is a special build with a 4S power pack powering the Sure amp, USB sockets, and the XT60 for field charging.
Finished in a deep black with grey splatter, and a clear lacquer coat to keep it looking good.
We’ve gone for bolt on feet this time, having decided to drop the glue on 3D printed feet which were too easy to knock off.

I’ve been thinking of offering a smaller version of PiigBox called Piiglet. It will be a one speaker offering built into a 30Cal ammo can. With switches and sockets all up front. Let me know if you think this would be a good idea. I might get something knocked up in photoshop, or just make one!

New charging option coming

There’s a new charging option coming to PiigBox and it involves this guy, the DJI FPV drone. I’ve been investigating car charging options to incorporate into PiigBox to enable you to charge these expensive packs in the field. They take a while to charge, but if you plan your day and charge while you’re flying other quads, you may just entend you DJI FPV day without paying an arm and a leg for more packs.

The solution is going to add 2 charging leads with indicator leds and will probably be a £30 add-on option. I may well do a dedicated version for the shop…

Is there anything else out there that PiigBox can’t charge? Let me know and I’ll do some digging and come up with a solution for you…

Upgraded Piig

Every time I looked at the original PiigBox, I knew I’d end up upgrading it to V2 with 3D printed grommits for a better fit and look. So Easter Monday morning I bit the bullet and stripped the speakers out. I intended just replacing the rubber o-rings with 3D printed parts and new bolts.

But it soon became apparent that the rings were well and truley welded (glued) to the speakers and it ripped a very small section of the rubber cone. There was only one thing for it. New speakers. So I raided the store room, and added new bling to the house Piig.

Easter Piigs

I went on a easter egg hunt in the garden and found these 2 beauties. The pink one is mine and the gorgeous light blue Piig is a ‘Sounds & Charge’ shop stock model. If you’re following the blog, you’ll have seen it naked, with holes drilled, to prime, top coat, then final build stage.

The great thing about being a maker, is progress. Every PiigBox I make is better than the previous one. I learn lessons on hole cutting, sanding, priming, and final painting. My 3D printer has become an invaluable tool in making PiigBoxes. From PLA lithium ion cell holders and amp shelf, to flexible TPU speaker grommits which really have are now in version 28 😜…

It was a challenge putting powerful speakers into an ammo can and stop it rattling. So V1 PiigBox had 100mm rubber rings between the speaker and the case. I was never quite happy with them!!!!

So after 27 previous versions (Artistic licence used just a little bit) I settled on a full design which draws the speaker into the case really tightly.

One other flexible 3D printed part you can’t see is the 16 x 1.5mm washers which compress before and after the painted speaker grilles to protect the paintwork.

All of these flexible parts allow me to get the speakers nice and tight and ensure a rattle free experience. Well, until the bass rattles your teeth out……

The next evolution will be a power boost to the amp regardless of pack size (voltage). I have a step up converter in the original PiigBox which steps up from 12v to 18v to give the bluetooth amp a boost. I want to ensure 100% reliability, so need to pressure test a few parts before I make them standard.
